Report: Trump Fires Presidential Campaign Manager After Ivanka Threat: It's Him or Me

Donald Trump's campaign has fired Corey Lewandowski, who's been with the billionaire since he started his White House bid.

Donald Trump has fired his campaign manager after widespread reports of a power struggle in the billionaire White House hopeful's inner circle.

The power vacuum left by the departure of Corey Lewandowski, an outsider whose relative lack of experience had become a symbol of Trump's non-traditional campaign, will likely be filled by Republican strategist and party insider Paul Manafort.

The two men were reportedly often at odds about the direction to take Trump's campaign, though the candidate himself has dismissed their rivalry as mere gossip.

In an upset that followed Lewandowski's termination, Trump's head of communications for his caucus operations team, Michael Caputo, resigned Monday after posting a tweet with a photo the Wizard of Oz's wicked witch beneath the house and the message "ding dong the witch is dead.

Meanwhile, reports emerged soon after the campaign's official announcement that it was actually Ivanka Trump — and her publisher husband Jared Kushner —  who wanted Lewandowski out.

I'm told the person who convinced Trump to fire Corey is Ivanka - who met with her dad and said get rid of him or she can no longer help

"The Donald J. Trump Campaign for President, which has set a historic record in the Republican primary having received almost 14 million votes, has today announced that Corey Lewandowski will no longer be working with the campaign," campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement.

According to CNN's Dana Bash, the move came after Ivanka Trump gave her father an ultimatum.

"I'm told the person who convinced Trump to fire Corey is Ivanka —  who met with her dad and said get rid of him or she can no longer help," Bash tweeted Monday.

Also behind the move was Ms. Trump's husband, Bash said.

I'm told that also intimately involved in getting Corey out was Trumps son in law Jared, who has a large and growing behind the scenes role

Lewandowski is a former New Hampshire field director for a conservative advocacy group. He became something of a household name after he was accused of manhandling a reporter at a Florida primary event.

The charge against him by a local sheriff was eventually dropped.

In a statement, Corey said Monday: "I stand by the fact that Mr. Trump is a great candidate and is better than Hillary Clinton ever will be."
