Plus-Size Model Dies After Routine Knee Surgery

It's a shocking story of a famous plus-size model who suddenly died after having routine knee surgery. Now her loved ones want to know what happened. INSIDE EDITION has more.

A famous plus-size model suddenly died after routine surgery on her knee. Now, the question is, did her weight play a role in the tragedy?

300-pound Mia Amber Davis, who stood six feet tall, was one of the nation's leading plus-size models.

She appeared on the reality show The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, and in several scenes in the movie Road Trip.

Davis once told INSIDE EDITION she was happy with her weight.

"I'm really proud of how I look. I love my body," said Davis.

36-year-old Davis had minor surgery on her knee earlier this week to repair a college basketball injury. The next day she complained of not feeling well and was rushed to the hospital, but doctors couldn't save her.

Her stunned husband was quoted as saying, "I want to know what happened to my wife."

Comedian Erica Watson hung out with her friend at a show in Los Angeles just last weekend.

Watson told INSIDE EDITION, "Mia came over and gave me this biggest hug like she's never given me before. She has never hugged me like that, ever. And I said, 'What are you hugging me like that for, like you're not going to see me again? You're going to be back in New York in June.' And she said, 'I know, but I'm getting my knee surgery Monday and I won't be able to see you because I won't be able to walk for a week.' "

The View's Sherri Shepherd was also a pal.

"Mia Amber Davis was the most lovely spirit anybody could ever know. We love you Mia," said Shepherd on The View.
