Theresa Danks says budget cuts have forced her to spend up to $3,000 out of her own pocket.

A dedicated teacher in Oklahoma was recently spotted panhandling on the side of the road to raise money for her students' supplies, which she has been forced to pay for out of pocket amid budget cuts.

Teresa Danks was filmed by her husband at an intersection in Tulsa last week, appealing to strangers for donations to buy school supplies for her pupils.

Danks says she has spent up to $3,000 of her own money to provide supplies for her third grade students.

“Whatever it is, we spend our own money,” she told Inside Edition.

Acting on a suggestion by her husband, Danks made a sign that read, “Teacher Needs School Supplies! Anything helps. Thank you.”

In a few hours, Danks made $126.00. She was overwhelmed with the support.

Danks has a Facebook page dedicated to spreading awareness as well as a GoFundMe page, which has raised nearly $15,000 for supplies for the teachers and students.

“It just really made me feel good,” she said as she tried to hold back tears. “We love our kids.”
