A California man is facing charges of animal cruelty after cops say security cameras caught him deliberately running over his dog in a back alley. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
In one of the most shocking surveillance videos, a man got into his car, backed up and ran right over his pet dog.
It happened in an alley in Hawthorne, California outside Los Angeles and now everyone is asking, who would do such a thing, and why?
The dog, named Cow-Cow, was a five-year-old Chihuahua. The man who ran over his own pet is Michael David Parker. Police say he claims this was an accident.
INSIDE EDITION spoke to Nancy Grace who said, "I don't believe words can convey how upsetting this video is."
TV's Grace, whose HLN show airs at 8p.m., watched the entire video and will never forget it.
She said,"The dog writhes in pain and jerks in the alley and Parker doesn't even stop!"
Hawthorne Police Lt. Scott Swain told INSIDE EDITON, "Just looking at the video and it looks to be intentional. The dog looks to be getting out of the way of the vehicle and he actually had to swerve toward the dog."
Parker opened the trunk of his car moments before the tragedy. He's believed to have removed Cow-Cow from the trunk and turned him loose. What happens next is the now infamous scene.
Grace said, "I know Mr. Parker claims this was one big accident! One big misunderstanding! I don't believe that!"
Why would a man run over his own pet? Parker is in the midst of a bitter divorce from his wife. She says he ran over Cow-Cow after she refused to sign over their house to him.
Too frightened to show her face, Olga Parker said her ex is upset over not getting the house. She told local news, "I believe that's why he was so mad and angry at me. And to get back at me, this is what he did to my dogs."
Meanwhile, their other dog, Lucky, is missing.
He was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and released on $20,000 bail. No matter what happens next, the chilling video will never be forgotten.
