A mother who took her toddler son to Syria so she could join ISIS has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Tareena Shakil, 26, was ordered jailed on Monday in a British court. She is the first woman in that country to be convicted of joining the terrorist group.

In a Birmingham courtroom, Shakil was admonished by a judge for letting her son be used by the terror organization and allowing "him to be photographed next to an AK-47."
The former health worker acknowledges she traveled to Syria but denies joining ISIS.
"You embraced your role in providing fighters of the future," the judge said in announcing Shakil's sentence, the BBC reported.
The court heard testimony that Khakil had posed her boy, who then 14 months old, wearing an ISIS facemask. The judge called it one of the most "abhorrent" actions in her case.

Shakil had sent messages to her family after arriving in Syria, saying she wanted to die a martyr and would not return to Britain, according to testimony.
She eventually left Syria last January, walking across the Turkish border and turning herself into authorities. She said at the time she realized she had made a mistake.
