Emotional Start To New Season Of 'Dancing with the Stars'

Valerie Harper stole the show on the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars for her courageous turn on the dance floor while facing brain cancer. INSIDE EDITION reports from backstage.

A courageous Valerie Harper took to the dance floor as she battles terminal brain cancer.

The 74-year-old TV legend got a standing ovation and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

Carrie Ann Inaba said, "You brought me to tears with your courage and I just appreciate you being on our show so much, so thank you."

Harper told INSIDE EDITION she's hoping her dancing will inspire others to live for the moment.

"I'm glad for that. I don't go for that, but if it's a byproduct of my just sharing the truth, then I'm thrilled," said Harper.

Actress Leah Remini put her epic battle with the Church of Scientology behind her, and her best friend, Jennifer Lopez,  was in the audience to show support, along with boytoy Casper Smart.

Jersey Shore's Snooki wowed the crowd when her partner stripped off her black dress, revealing a sexy short pink mini.

And glee star Amber Riley proved she is the one to beat, leading with three nines. Her glee cast was in the audience to support her.

Judge Bruno Tonioli said, "Amber, you are the tigress of season 17."

But all eyes were on Valerie Harper as America cheered her on during her brave dance.
