Comics Have A Field Day With Government Shutdown Jokes

The goverment shutdown has given the late night comics a bevy of material to work with, and they're working it for big laughs. INSIDE EDITION has more.

On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Fallon questioned an Obama impersonator sitting in the audience, "Oh my goodness, it's President Obama! What are you doing here?"

"I went out on a cigarette break and came back to the Capitol and the door was locked," replied the Obama impersonator.

David Letterman joked on his show, "Almost a million non-essential employees were let go. Well, isn't that the problem? Eight-hundred thousand non-essential employees!"

Conan O'Brien added in his own sense of humor, "Get this—800,000 federal employees are out of work, which explains why our entire studio audience is made up of park rangers and astronauts!"

Jay Leno jested, "All the national parks are closed! Here's my question. How do you close the Grand Canyon, really? Do you put a giant tarp on it. Is there a guy there saying, 'Don't look in the hole!'"

Letterman was on a role, "The NSA is out of business! Gone. While they are closed, while the government is shut down, they're asking the citizens to spy on each other!"

"How many of you are worried about the government shutdown?" asked Leno to a crowd that responded in silence.

Leno then asked, "How many more of you are worried about it starting back up?" Leno's follow-up question elicited laughter and cheers from the crowd.
