Neil deGrasse Tyson Brings 'Cosmos' To Primetime

INSIDE EDITION spoke to astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson about the Cosmos reboot that’s bringing science back to primetime.

Famed astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is the host of the new TV show Cosmos, a sequel to the famous 1970's series that starred Carl Sagan.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson told INSIDE EDITION, “I am not making science cool, I'm just revealing the fact that it was cool all along.”

The new Cosmos premieres Sunday, not on PBS, as you'd expect. It’s on FOX, in primetime.

Tyson said, “I said if we wanted to reach the most people it would be on a Sunday night in primetime.”

The New York Times says "It's hard to imagine a better man to reboot the Cosmos than Neil deGrasse Tyson.”

Dr. Tyson says his growing fame surprises him, saying, “I have two million Twitter followers. Do I have to remind them that I am an astrophysicist?”

Another surprise might be whose behind the show. Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane is the Executive Producer. He thinks the show is long overdue.

MacFarlane told INSIDE EDITION at the show's Los Angeles premiere, "I am a fan of science and anytime Neil talks I just have to listen."

Dr. Tyson reminded us that several popular shows on the air today deal with scientists.

Big Bang Theory is the number one sitcom on television. We have NCIS and CSI, these featured people are scientists,” he said.

Thirteen episodes of Cosmos will air on FOX Sunday nights at 9p.m. right after The Simpsons and Family Guy.
