January 17, 2026
Students at the University of Texas at Arlington are being praised after working with local law enforcement for their help in connection with a 34-year-old cold case murder. In November, Janie Perkins, 63, was arrested and charged in the 1991 murder of Cynthia Gonzales. Her attorney says she is innocent. Following the arrest, the professor and a student in the class spoke to Inside Edition Digital about how they got involved. The victim's daughter told Inside Edition Digital that hearing news of the arrest was "so hard to describe, but definitely I've had hope, But I did never really believe we'd see this day."
