Hitler's Austrian Birthplace Is Turned Into A Police Station
July 21, 2026
The birthplace of Adolf Hitler, in the Austrian town of Braunau, is being turned into a police station. Austria's government seized the property from its then-owner in 2016. Authorities want to make sure the structure doesn't become a pilgrimage site for right-wing extremists. The future Nazi leader was born there in 1889, and his family lived in the house for three years. A plaque outside the house notes that Hitler "was responsible for unprecedented humanitarian crimes."
