'Tell me off!' William Shatner Fires Back at Critics For Missing Leonard Nimoy's Funeral

William Shatner is firing back at critics who say he should have attended his Star Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy's funeral.

William Shatner is getting slammed for missing Leonard Nimoy's funeral.

Shatner arrived back in Los Angeles on Sunday after attending a Red Cross Ball at Donald Trump's Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. Shatner landed in L.A. at 11:30 a.m., two-and-a-half hours after Nimoy’s funeral which started at 9 a.m.

Shatner tweeted a Daily News cover calling him "Captain Jerk" along with the message: "I want to share this, let's discuss it."

He also defended his decision: "I chose to honor a commitment I made months ago to appear at a charitable fundraiser. A lot of money was raised. So here I am: tell me off."

And many let him have it.

"Lame excuse. Man up," said one

Another said, "Who advises this man? How does his brain work?"

Shatner hit back tweeting: "All haters do is hate"

Nimoy’s funeral was private and held at a secret location, reportedly to keep devoted Trekkies from showing up. Following the funeral, mourners were seen arriving at Nimoy's home.

Leonard Nimoy was a heavy smoker early in his life but gave up cigarettes three decades ago. He died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease at his home in the Bel-Air section of Los Angeles.  Fans had been bracing themselves for the devastating news because it was obvious to everyone that he was terribly ill.

Last year, he was spotted being wheeled through JFK Airport in New York looking thin and frail.

Nimoy wanted his fans to learn from his illness.

He once tweeted this heartbreaking message: "I quit smoking 30 yrs ago.  Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP."

LLAP of course stands for “Live Long And Prosper.”  And those were the immortal words from The Wrath of Kahn as the Vulcan who touched our hearts lay dying.
