There was a dramatic security scare involving the president's niece at Monday night’s March Madness basketball game between Princeton and Maryland.
Leslie Robinson, a freshman at Princeton, played unaware that undercover cops were in the arena looking for an assassin.
The University of Maryland received an eight minute long voicemail on Monday claiming there was a gunman on campus and specifically mentioning the president's niece.
Undercover cops sat near the Princeton bench. Secret Service agents were already on hand to protect Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, who were among the spectators.
The president watched his niece play in Saturday’s game but was not there last night.
Princeton lost and coach Courtney Banghart said she decided not to inform Leslie that she was the target of a possible death threat.
She told reporters, “It's incredibly disappointing that the first question we get after being 31-1 and in the NCAA tournament is about a freak! Leslie is safe. She’s in my locker room. No one loves her like I do and she's an important part of the team so keep the freaks out of the gym.”
