He asked her using a microphone so that the crowd could hear her, "Is there any way you would come to prom with me?

She replied, "I already have a date," and the crowd went nuts as a chorus of gasps came down onto the field.

He replied, "What?"

"I’m sorry,” she said.

INSIDE EDITION’s Les Trent spoke to the Patrick and Jen.

Patrick said, "I was pretty much like 'What just happened?' There is no way you can go back from it."

Trent said, "I assume you expected her to say yes."

He replied, "I did, yeah!"

Jen has known Patrick for years but she didn’t have a clue the proposal was coming!

She said, "I was shocked. I was not expecting it at all."

But the heart is truly resilient. Patrick went to the home of classmate Lilli Abraham carrying a sign that said, “PROM 2015” and she said yes!

Trent asked her, "How do you feel being second choice?"

"Obviously, I would have rather been first choice but there is nothing I can do about that," she said.

So, Patrick and Lilli will dance the night away at the Park Ridge High School prom and before long, the prom rejection will be a distant memory.

Patrick told Trent, "Right now, it is just a laugh. I just think it is funny."
