Jon Stewart Gets Serious with New York Mayor Bill de Blasio on 'Daily Show'
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was a guest on The Daily Show last night. The 6’5” inch Mayor towering over the 5’8” Jon Stewart.
Stewart certainly noticed it by starting the interview saying, “I want to ask you before we get into that, what also about height inequality?”
But quickly the discussion gets serious.
“There is a big conversation that we are having about crime. Shootings in New York City have risen in over the last two years,” Stewart said.
“We do have a shooting problem. We had a shooting problem last and a shooting problem this year. Nothing like New York City had 15 to 20 years ago,” the Mayor replied.
De Blasio blamed the crime wave mainly on gang violence and says it has nothing with the dramatic decrease in “Stop and Frisk."
He said, “Police are not wasting their time on unnecessary unconstitutional stops and are not wasting time on low level marijuana arrests.”
Stewart then joked, “By the way, is a pound low level?”
The Mayor was on the program to discuss his national campaign to raise minimum wage to $15 before Stewart directed the conversation to the recent events in New York City crime.
