Take a Look Inside The Chilling Journal Heath Ledger Wrote As He Played The Joker

A German documentary about the life of late actor Heath Ledger reveals the diary he kept when he was prepping and filming his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

In one scene from the documentary, Ledger’s father, Kim, opens the diary and talks about how his son treated the role.

“He pretty well locked himself up in a hotel in his apartment for a month or so, to sort of galvanized the upcoming character in his own mind," he said.

"That was typical of Heath on any movie. He would certainly immerse himself in the upcoming character. I think this was just a whole new level."

The diary showcases playing cards -- the joker; clown photos, and cells from old Batman comics.

There are also images of Malcom McDowell’s character, Alex, from A Clockwork Orange taped inside.

The most chilling part of the diary comes eight months after shooting finished on The Dark Knight.

He wrote: “8 months ago, wrapped now!” Followed by: “BYE BYE.”

His father said: “At the end of shooting, he wrote goodbye on the back of the last page. It was hard to read that.”

The actor died in 2008, aged 28. He was found in a New York City apartment.

The documentary, Too Young To Die: Heath Ledger, aired in 2012. The clip of Kim reading the diary surfaced in 2014 but is only now gaining traction across the web.
