Little Sophia Cruz touched hearts across America when she broke through security for a very special encounter with the Pope. It appeared like a spontaneous, unscripted moment but it turns out that it was all planned for more than a year.

"We planned to do this from the moment we learned the Pope was coming," a spokesperson said.

In fact, they've done it before, last year in Rome with a 10-year-old girl.

Of course there was no guarantee that the Pope would call Sophie over. But they got lucky and the photogenic little girl got the audience they were hoping for -- delivering a drawing to the Pope which said: "My friends and I love each other. The color of our skin doesn't matter."
