In a stunning scientific discovery, NASA scientists have announced that evidence of water has been found on Mars.

Mars is not the arid planet that we thought of in the past. Images released by NASA show streaks down craters, which infer the flow of water:

The historic announcement is fueling Mars mania. The red planet has been the subject of endless fascination. Everything from Mission To Mars, Total Recall, War of the Worlds, and The Spoof Mars Attacks.

NASA's announcement comes as a new movie about surviving on Mars - The Martian, starring Matt Damon - is about to be released.

There are even people hoping to be the first humans to go to Mars - and they plan to never come back.

Sonia Van Meter, 36, said she would say goodbye to her earth family to go to Mars. Van Meter told IE: “I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't have the absolute support of my husband and family."

A hundred volunteers have been chosen to colonize Mars by Mars One, a private company that hopes to launch the expedition in 2026.
