Texas Southern University was on lockdown on Friday after two people were shot - one fatally - at a student housing complex, officials said.

The shooting was the second fatal campus shooting to unfold on Friday. It came just hours after a student was killed and three others were injuried at Northern Arizona University. A freshman was taken into custody.

In Texas, Houston Police said a possible suspect had been detained. A university spokesperson said early on Friday afternoon that the campus is on lockdown and classes have been canceled.

The shooting was reported around 11:30 a.m. local time at University Courtyard Apartments, which is on the edge of the Houston campus.
