A heartbroken Jim Carrey paid tribute to his ex-girlfriend as she was laid to rest this weekend.
The actor was a pallbearer for Cathriona White's coffin at her funeral in her home village of Cappawhite in County Tipperary, Ireland on Saturday.
That day, Carrey posted a tweet showing a silhouette of them together in happier times.
“Love cannot be lost,” the caption read.
Carrey, who made the 5,000-mile journey from Los Angeles to bid farewell to the young make-up artist, helped carry her casket through the streets. He was seen closing his eyes tightly to fight back tears.
A friend was quoted as saying that her “sisters and family seemed very glad to have him there.”
In keeping with Irish tradition, the entire town came out to pay their final respects. They moved slowly through the streets where Cathriona grew up, while children from the local elementary school formed an honor guard alongside the hearse.
Cathriona White, who had been dating the actor on and off since 2012, was found dead September 28. The 30-year-old is believed to have taken her life.
After her death, Carrey said in a statement: "She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled.
"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt."
