The most contentious exchanges came on immigration and Donald Trump's plan to deport 11 million illegal immigrants.

Contender John Kasich said: “Come on folks we all know that you can't pick them up and ship them back across the border. It's a silly argument! It's not an adult argument it makes no sense.”

Trump hit back: “All I can say is you're lucky in Ohio you struck oil! That's all I can say!”

It wasn't the only time Trump insulted the Ohio governor.

“I built a company worth millions and millions of dollars, I don't have to hear from this man, believe me. I really don't,” Trump said.

At one point Kasich was speaking and Trump interjected by saying: “You should let Jeb speak.”

Thank you Donald for allowing me to speak at the debate,” Jeb Bush said. “I really appreciate that! What a generous man you are.”

Carly Fiorina and Trump also went head-to-head over Vladimir Putin.

“I got to know him very well because we were both on "60 Minutes", we were stablemates. We did very well that night,” Trump declared.

Fiorina responded: “I have met him as well although it was not in the green room for a show. It was a private meeting.”

Dr. Ben Carson joked about questions being raised about his life story: “First of all thank you for not asking me what I said in the tenth grade. I appreciate that.”

Marco Rubio and Rand Paul went head-to-head over defense spending. Paul was in favor of a more conservative budget while Rubio wants to spend.

“I know that Rand is a committed isolationist. I'm not! I believe the world is a stronger and a better place when the United States is the strongest military power in the world,” Rubio said.

Some are calling Rubio the winner but neither Trump nor Carson appear to have lost ground.

A Drudge poll says 36 percent named Trump the winner with Ted Cruz in second place with 23 percent.
