A little girl got a shiny medal for saving the lives of her mom and baby brother after their car plunged down an embankment in the Canadian Rockies.
"She's the reason I'm alive," mother Angela Shymanski told INSIDE EDITION. "I remember feeling my eyes shut one time. And that's when I though OK, (at) the next rest stop I am going to stop there. I never made it to that rest stop," she said.
Five-year-old Lexi knew she had to get help. Her mother was unconscious and baby Peter, her brother, was wailing.
So the girl climbed up the embankment and waved her arms and screamed for help until a car stopped to help. Loni and Jeremiah Jirik saw Lexi on the side of the road, and stopped to help.
INSIDE EDITION reunited the two families.
"Oh, you just can't ... there's no words," said Angela. "'Thank you' doesn't even come close."
