Carjackers Steal Car With 8-Year-Old Boy in Backseat, Then Take Him to School

Two carjackers who had stolen a mother's vehicle with her 8-year-old boy in back seat dropped him off at school.

Well, at least he got to school on time.

An 8-year-old boy was sitting in the back seat of his mother’s car when two men got in, turned around, and asked him where he went to school, police said.

So he told them, and the men dropped him in front of his elementary school in Norfolk, Virginia.

Perhaps they were carjackers with a conscience.

The two men stole the mom’s vehicle as it sat outside a Norfolk Post Office, where she works, Police Cpl. Melinda Ray told INSIDE EDITION.

The engine was running, the keys were in the ignition and the boy was inside listening to the radio, Ray said. Apparently it was a work day routine – the mother started work before the child went to school, so she would leave him sitting in the car for 20 or 30 minutes and then come out and drive him to school, Ray said.

Why not bring the boy inside?

“That is a good question,” Ray replied. Police are considering whether to press charges against the woman.

The child was unharmed. The vehicle was found abandoned about three miles from the school.

After the mother reported her son and her car were missing, police discovered the child at school, Ray said.

“When we got there, he was just sitting in his homeroom class like nothing had happened,” Ray said. “He thought his mother had just arranged for someone else to take him to school.

“But when learned what had happened, he was quite frightened,” she said.
