Robbery at Mall Near the Scene of San Bernardino Tragedy Sparks Massive Police Response

Police were called to a mall near where the San Bernardino tragedy occurred and then discovered it was a robbery.

Thieves broke into a shopping mall not far from the scene of the San Bernardino shooting on Sunday, sparking a massive police response.

Panicked shoppers heard glass shattering and reported shots at the Riverside shopping mall.

But the larger than usual police response was called off once cops realized it was a burglary and not another terror attack. The reports of shootings were unfounded.

Eloy Medina, a witness, told the Los Angeles Times: “I understood that they tried to rob a Robbins Brothers jewelry store. There were two definitely loud bangs which made all the shoppers on the first floor start running for their lives.”

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan took to Twitter to comment on the incident:

@SanBernardinoPD officers were called to Riverside Incident as a mutual aid - shooting call. Shooting unfounded.

The Riverside Police Department, who also responded to the call, posted on Facebook:

The investigation into the robbery is still ongoing and no suspects have been caught.

The incident came on the heels of President Obama’s Oval Office speech, which he used to try to reassure a jittery public.

He said: “As Commander-in-Chief, I have no great responsibility than the security of the American people…We will destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us.”

Right after the speech, he donned a tuxedo and attended the annual Kennedy Center Honors with his wife.

Donald Trump mocked the president's address, sending out tweets as it was happening.

Is that all there is? We need a new President - FAST!

Wish Obama would say ISIS, like almost everyone else, rather than ISIL.

Should have gone after the oil years ago (like I have been saying).

Well, Obama refused to say (he just can't say it), that we are at WAR with RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISTS.

Obama said in his speech that Muslims are our sports heroes. What sport is he talking about, and who? Is Obama profiling?
