LeBron James Crashes Into Golfer's Wife During Basketball Game
It was a terrifying moment on live TV as LeBron James plowed full-speed into a defenseless fan sitting courtside.
The six-foot-eight, 250-pound superstar accidentally slammed into golfer Jason Day’s wife, Ellie, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio, when going for a loose ball that was heading out of bounds.
She flipped over as LeBron crashed into her.
She was placed in a neck brace and wheeled to an ambulance on a gurney.
LeBron later tweeted:
Ellie Day I hope you're doing okay! My apologies! Hope u guys come back to another game soon. Love LJ!— LeBron James (@KingJames) December 18, 2015
The Days are Cavs fans and live in Ohio. Ellie just gave birth to the couple’s second child last month.
According to ESPN, Jason Day’s agent, Bud Martin, said in a statement that Ellie was suffering from concussion symptoms and resting comfortably.
Martin quoted her as saying: “He was just doing his job. Go Cavs,” and said there are no hard feelings.
"It wasn't anything out of the usual besides the injury," James told ESPN after the game. "But to me, obviously her health is very important, and hopefully she's doing well. The guys told us she's doing great now. So, but you know, I was going for a loose ball. Just trying to keep the possession going, and I hate that that was the end result of it.”
In May, James stopped himself from running into a pregnant woman that was sitting courtside in Atlanta and during his days with the Miami Heat he nearly collided with another pregnant woman who was sitting close to the court.
Cavaliers Coach David Blatt said after the game: “The powers that be are the ones that really need to decide how to deal with that. He made an honest attempt at the basketball, that's all, obviously. We all hope she's OK."
He also added: "It's always concerned me, the sideline seats. Always concerned me, because things like that, when you're talking about players of this speed and physicality and effort level, it's not a simple thing.”
