The alleged robber tried to get into Joe Milspa’s home with an axe, and broke a window to climb into the home in San Jacinto, California, on January 31.

When Milspa heard the glass shatter, he grabbed his 1911 .45-caliber handgun, and fired off a round to scare the robber, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Wielding his weapon, the retired LAPD mechanic demonstrated how the incident went down, and what he did to stop the invasion.

“I could have shot him right in the head between the eyes. But I didn’t want to do that,” he said.

The burglar escaped injury, leaving behind his ax and several other items, police said. He was described as 20 to 30 years old with a dark complexion.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is urged to call the San Jacinto Police Department at (951) 654-2702.
