Surveillance footage posted to Facebook by the Kingston Police shows a civilian end a police chase by tripping a suspect and causing him to fall flat on his face.

"A number of Kingston Officers were chasing a suspect through the town centre over the weekend when they received some unexpected assistance from a member of the public!" read a message with the video. "Thank you for helping them."

The suspect was a 17 year old who police believe was carrying drugs with intent to sell. Police were easily able to nab him, thanks to the quick-thinking passerby.

While the video of the Saturday incident was just posted Monday, it had already been viewed nearly 375,000 times by Tuesday afternoon.

And one of those many viewers was the local police boss.

The Kingston Police followed up their video post with a message to the man who tripped the suspect.

"The Borough Commander was extremely impressed when he saw this footage and would like to meet the passer by personally to say thanks! So if you're out there get in touch..." the post read.
