See Our Reporter Go Undercover as a Granny to Investigate Alleged Scammer Repairman

Lisa Guerrero wore a mask and carried a cane in a bid to catch a man accused of scamming the elderly.

INSIDE EDITION went undercover to investigate claims that a Tennessee repairman conned thousands of dollars from unsuspecting elderly residents.

Reporter Lisa Guerrero enlisted the help of Emmy-winning makeup artist Ben Adams to transform herself into a senior citizen, complete with a wig and a walker.

The extreme measure came after a group of elderly residents said Glenn Harris, from Johnson City, charged them thousands of dollars for shoddy repair work.

One of his clients, 78-year-old Audrey Guion, told INSIDE EDITION: “I think he targets the elderly or anyone who he thinks is vulnerable. I really just did want to haul off and hit him one. I couldn’t believe this man was really doing this.”

Another client, Cheryl Seymore said: “The man is evil. He has no conscious.”
Jason Sutphin said his mother Ellen was duped by the same repairman.

"My mom took out a $50,000 home equity loan to pay in cash because he wanted cash on everything,” he said.

He said his mom first contacted Harris to fix a plumbing problem but went on to charge her more for home improvement jobs she didn't need. She later suffered a fatal stroke.

"I believe that the stroke was caused by stress and the only stress she had in her life at that time was Glenn Harris," her son said.

In a bid to see how Harris treated his elderly customers, INSIDE EDITION rented a home, rigged it with hidden cameras and deliberately caused a leak in the water heater. Guerrero called Harris to make an appointment and he said he would be there at 9 a.m. the next day to fix it.

Many of his former customers gathered in a big van parked down the block and waited for him, as Guerrero waited in her costume. But Harris never came, which came as no surprise to his upset clients.

“This is par for the course for this slime ball,” said Bob Seymore.

Another woman, Faye Adkins, said: “He's a pathological liar. I’d like to use my cane on him.”

After four hours, Guerrero got through to Harris who promised to be there the next morning. But again, he failed to show up. On the third day, he did the same.

So INSIDE EDITION went to him, instead.

In her full costume, Guerrero approached Harris and asked him why he’d failed to show up. She pulled over her mask and asked: “I'd like to know if you're bilking elderly people in this community for thousands of dollars?”

“No ma’am. No I’m not,” he said.

“I've talked to numerous people who claim that you have been ripping them off,” she said.

“I haven't been. No I have not,” he replied.

As he got into his car to drive off, she asked: “Do you have anything at all to say to the victims that feel you owe them a lot of money?”

“I don't have any victims that I owe money to. I don't,” he said.

Glenn Harris denies all the allegations and insists he operates above board.
