Two Doberman Pinschers Rescued After They Somehow Became Lodged in a Storm Drain

Two adult female Dobermans became stuck in a Southern California storm drain on Friday.

If it was a tight squeeze going in, then it was even tighter coming out for two Doberman Pinschers who were found lodged somehow in a storm drain Friday.

The two pooches, one of them a mix-breed (but large nonetheless), were seen trapped under a Riverside County sidewalk on Friday.

A motel employee called for help and county officials arrived to the scene to find the bizarre scene of two dogs sticking their heads out of the skinny drain.

"We have no idea how two dogs got inside sewer," Riverside County Animal Services tweeted Friday along with photos of the strange sight. "Seriously: how did you and your buddy get in there?"

Animal services enlisted the help of Cal Fire Riverside, who had to remove the grate from the road in order to finally get both dogs to safety.

The dogs, both of which are female, were unharmed, Riverside County Department of Animal Services  spokesman John Welsh told KTLA. They are taken for full exams at an area shelter.

Meanwhile, stumped officials want to know how they got in the drain in the first place.

Anyone who saw "anything suspicious" related to how the dogs got into the drain is asked email their tips to shelterinfo@rcdas.org.
