Ben Carson Endorses Trump, Says: 'We Buried the Hatchet'
Just a week after ending his campaign for president, retired pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson has endorsed his former rival Donald Trump.
Speaking at Mar-a-Lago, a private club and resort owned by Trump in Florida, Dr. Carson said he and the GOP frontrunner had “buried the hatchet” and is backing him for his run to the White House.
Carson said that all has been forgiven between the two rivals.
“I know there will be some who want to underscore our differences and others will wish to return to statements he has made about me in the past, but that is politics," he said. "As a man of faith, all is forgiven and we have moved beyond the past, as the future is now."
At Friday morning’s news conference, Carson said Trump is “actually a very intelligent man who cares deeply about America.”
Carson added that Trump is a “much more reasonable person than he comes across.”
Trump was grateful of Carson’s endorsement saying: “Ben’s going to have a big part [in the campaign]. That kind of talent we want to keep.”
This is the second of Trump’s former rivals to back him in his bid for president. Last month, former presidential candidate and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie backed the billionaire in a surprise endorsement.
Christie said: “There is no one who is better prepared to provide America with the strong leadership that it needs both at home and around the world than Donald Trump."
Since the endorsement, seven New Jersey newspapers have called for Christie's resignation.
