Former Mrs. America Jennifer Kline allegedly switched out labels on thousands of dollars worth of clothing.
A former Mrs. America has been charged with swindling Macy's out of $5,000, prosecutors say.
Jennifer Kline, who was crowned Mrs. America 1989, has been charged with scamming $5,000 from Macy’s locations in her home state of Minnesota by putting tags from recently purchased clothes on old garments.
According a statement from the Hennepin County Attorney, a Macy's asset protection detective reported that Kline, 50, purchased $2,884 worth of designer clothes from a location in the town of Southdale.

The next day, authorities say Kline purchased another $2,906 worth of clothing from the same store.
A store detective was notified after Kline made two returns on November 11 and November 30 and was refunded $5,501.
Prosecutors say the detective discovered the returned clothes appeared dirty or worn but had the tags and labels of the recently purchased clothing.

Edina Police executed a search warrant at Kline’s home and recovered 24 items of clothing purchased on Nov. 5 and 6 and supposedly returned on Nov. 11 and 30, according to the criminal complaint.
Kline, who has appeared as a host on host on ShopNBC/EVINE Live, is not in custody. She made her first court appearance.
A call made to Kline's attorney was not immediately returned on Wednesday morning.
