A Texas mom was found callously murdered in a church Monday after police believe she walked in on a burglary in progress.
Terri "Missy" Bevers, 45, arrived to Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian before dawn to teach a fitness class just as police believe a thief was stalking the halls of the house of worship.
Bevers, a mother to three girls ages 8, 13 and 15, was discovered dead around 5 a.m. by her fitness class.
Police first discovered evidence of forced entry before a review of the security tapes showed the suspected intruder inside the church. He was clad in police-style tactical gear including a helmet and vest.
She taught a boot camp style fitness class at the church called Camp Gladiator.
In addition to photos of her three girls, Bevers' Facebook is full of uplifting messages to her students as well as photos of her participating in endurance events.
Her last social media post read: "Goodnight all. I have to get up at 3:30am. See you bright and early."
Police said the suspect was seen carrying a tool used to break into multiple rooms in the church, but it was unclear if he had any other weapon. The exact cause of Bevers' death will be determined by medical examiners.
Bevers was the first person killed in Midlothian in seven years, police believe.
“We are exploring all possibilities,” Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith told reporters. “It’s just an odd random situation that they would happen to come into a building that’s being burglarized on a Monday morning but all scenarios are on the table right now.”
On Monday, Texas-based Oak Farms Dairy posted a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Bevers' killer.
