Oops! NPR Goes Off Air After Child Presses Buttons During 'Take Your Kid To Work Day'


Listeners to National Public Radio on the West Coast heard dead air on Thursday after an employee’s child “pressed some buttons” during “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.”

One of the kids couldn't resist pushing a button on the control panel, causing NPR's feed from Washington, D.C. to the West Coast to go silent for 73 seconds.

Seconds before the mishap, a dad who works at NPR tweeted:

 

An NPR executive called the incident “an educational day for us as well as our kids."

In an email to Gawker, an engineer for the station wrote: “One of our junior journalists was some how able to press the exact sequence, and perfectly timed live insert panel to insert studio 42 into the stream 1. I kid you not. Feel free to giggle at will.”
