The brother of one of the Brussels suicide bombers is headed to Rio.

Mourad Laachraoui is set to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil after winning gold for Belgium at the European Taekwondo Championships Friday, Reuters reported.

Laachraoui's older brother, Najim, was one of the men who blew themselves up at the Brussels Airport in March as part of a set of terrorist attacks that left 32 dead.

Laachraoui took the top prize in the Under-54kg category in Montreux, Switzerland, beating out 18-year-old Jesus Tortosa of Spain.

The 21-year-old is set to compete August 5 in Rio De Janeiro.

Najim Laachraoui was an Islamist fighter in Syria and is believed to have been involved in the manufacture of explosive belts used in the November 2015 terror attacks in France.

In the wake of the Brussels bombings, Mourad Laachraoui spoke at a press conference about his brother.

Laachraoui said he didn't know when or how his brother had become radicalized, but remembered him as an intelligent boy.

“When we were younger we were close, but as I became more passionate about sport we grew apart,” Laachraoui said.
