Nyle DiMarco Makes History to Become First Deaf Contestant to Win 'Dancing With the Stars'
It was a history-making moment on Dancing with the Stars as Nyle DiMarco became the first deaf contestant to take home the mirror ball trophy.
Backstage, DiMarco and his partner Peta Murgatroyd were elated after being crowned the season 22 champs.
“It's something we thought about since day one. It's incredible, he's so inspiring,” Murgatroyd told Inside Edition.
The two runner-ups were Good Morning America meteorologist Ginger Zee and MMA fighter Paige VanZant.
VanZant told Inside Edition: "I'm so happy for Nyle, he really deserves it. He's making waves and I couldn't be happier for him."
Zee added: "It was the moment that everyone wanted so badly and felt from the beginning. He can change the room and he can change the world."
DiMarco, a native of Queens, New York, was a former winner on America's Top Model and wowed the judges with his sexy dance moves.
On Tuesday night, the 22-year-old was moved to tears when judge Carrie Ann Inaba sent him a message with sign language.
She told the crowd: "I said 'thank you for touching us all with your dancing.'"
