Babysitter Charged With Murder in Infant's Benedryl Overdose Death

Lori Conley had several children in her Reynoldsburg, Ohio home last month when authorities say she gave an 8-month-old boy a lethal antihistamine dose.

An Ohio babysitter has been charged with murder after authorities say she gave an infant what turned out to be a fatal dose of Benedryl to put him to sleep.

Lori Conley was caring for several children in her Reynoldsburg home last month when she allegedly gave 8-month-old Haddix Mulkey an adult dose of the over-the-counter antihistamine.

When she found the infant unresponsive, a neighbor called authorities. Haddix was transported to an area hospital, where he died.

After toxiciology reports were completed, Conley was arrested on Friday. She was charged with murder and child endangering.

The 43-year-old suspect was babysitting seven other children at the time of the overdose, according to police.

Police say Conley admitted she gave the boy Benedryl because he was acting up.

Conley was given a bond about of $750,000. At her arraignment, she was ordered to stay away from children and that she could not be in the presence of her own unsupervised.

At a press conference along with Reynoldsburg police, Conley told reporters she wants justice for Haddix.

“I will always have a broken heart because a piece of me is gone,” Katie Mulkey said. “We had so many hopes and dreams for him and now it's all gone.”

Conley is back in court for a preliminary hearing on June 13.
