Texas Mom Fatally Shoots Her Young Daughters Before Police Are Forced to Take Her Down: Cops
A Texas mom was shot dead by police after they say she fatally gunned down her two daughters in the street outside their home.
Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office identified the mother as 42-year-old Christy Sheats. They say Sheats shot and killed her daughters after a family argument turned deadly on Friday evening.
Madison Sheats was 17, her sister Taylor was 22.
Taylor was scheduled to marry longtime boyfriend Juan Sebastian Lugo on Monday, a family member posted to Facebook.
County and local police responded to 911 calls regarding shots fired in a Houston suburb around 5 p.m. They arrived to find the two girls shot and bleeding in the street.
"The armed shooter was also in the street and, after refusing to drop her weapon, was shot and killed by a Fulshear officer," police said in a statement.
Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Madison was transported by helicopter in critical condition but could not be saved.
A witness told KTRK that the girls were attempting to flee with their father when their mother shot them.
The girls' father was not injured. According to local reports, the shootings occurred on his birthday.
In a statement, Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy E. Nehls called the event an "unimaginable tragedy that it seems we see too often."
"We'll do everything we can to assist their officer. Special thanks also to the Precinct 3 Constable's Office for their assistance on scene. Keep the family in your prayers," the sheriff said.
