Indianapolis Colts Owner Snags Prince's Iconic 'Yellow Cloud' Guitar at Auction
The owner of the Indianapolis Colts NFL franchise has purchased one of Prince's iconic guitars at auction.
Jim Irsay snagged the late music legend's "Yellow Cloud" guitar for a reported $137,500 on Saturday.
Prince, who was found dead April 21 at his Minnesota estate, used the guitar during stage performances up until the mid-1990s.
The instrument was sold at Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills alongside Elvis, David Bowie and other late stars' memorabilia.
"This guitar, like everything about the enigmatic virtuoso, is uniquely Prince," a spokesperson for Heritage Auctions said.
Mr. Irsay is an active collector of instruments, according to the Associated Press.
The billionaire also owns instruments once used by Jerry Garcia of Grateful Dead, John Lennon and Ringo Star of The Beatles and singer-songwriter Bob Dylan.
Prince was discovered unresponsive in the elevator of Paisley Park, his estate outside Minneapolis. Investigators have since determined the star died from an overdose of the opioid fentanyl.
