A man was killed after an industrial-sized barbecue came loose from a recreational vehicle and struck the car he was traveling in on a New York highway, authorities said.

A motor home was traveling east on Route 31 near Creek Road in the Town of Macedon at about 5:15 p.m. Saturday when a support beam connecting the large BBQ smoker it was towing broke, police said.

The smoker went into oncoming traffic and struck a Honda Civic, leaving the car's driver unconscious and killing his passenger, authorities said.

The driver, Jared Jones, was airlifted to Strong Hospital with injuries to his head and arms and has since been released, police said.

The passenger, 19-year-old Seth Krebbeks, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Palmyra-Macedon High School graduate was remembered as an avid sports fan who loved the New York Giants and played football, track and baseball.

A makeshift memorial filled with flowers and candles was erected at the site of Krebbeks’ death, as devastated loved ones also took to social media to mourn.

“Shout out and rest in peace to one of the best dudes I ever knew,” one friend wrote on Facebook. “You were the real homie.”

Another friend wrote: “God has gained another angel today.”

“Seth was a very special young man to many. He will always be in the hearts of everyone [in] the community. Thoughts and prayers are with his family,” a mourner wrote on a GoFundMe page created to offset burial costs.

Neither the driver of the motor home, Jason Mark, nor his passenger was injured in the collision, police said.

It is unknown if charges will be pressed against Mark, authorities said, citing the ongoing investigation.

A wake for Krebbeks will take place on Friday, July 8, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, Inc. in Palmyra. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, in Palmyra Cemetery.
