Mother Arrested After Toddler is Found Outside Alone Sucking on Frozen Chicken

The 2-year-old boy was found in the backyard alone wearing only a t-shirt and a "full and sagging" diaper while a dog tried to take the chicken.

An Iowa woman was arrested after her young son was allegedly found soiled and alone outside gnawing on a frozen piece of meat, authorities said.

A man pulled over by police for speeding on Monday told the officers he was rushing because his girlfriend’s child had been left alone at his Des Moines home, KCCI reported.

When they arrived at the man’s home, police reportedly found a 2-year-old boy in the backyard alone wearing only a t-shirt and a “full and sagging” diaper.

He was sucking on a frozen chicken breast while a small dog jumped on him in an effort to get the food, according to a police report viewed by KCCI.

The Iowa Department of Human Services was called to the scene for the child.

The boy’s mother, Hallie Amick, returned home about two hours later, according to reports.

She claimed it was the first time she left the toddler alone, but later “admitted she has left [the boy] home alone on occasion.”

Amick, 30, was charged with child endangerment bodily injury. She was also charged with narcotics possession after police allegedly found a marijuana pipe, blunt and marijuana stems in plain sight in the house.

Amick was released from the Polk County Jail on Tuesday.

Amick’s boyfriend, James Robinson, may face charges as well, police told The Des Moines Register.

The case remains under investigation.
