Meaghan Murphy, the executive editor of Good Housekeeping, gave Inside Edition some simple hacks on keeping things around the home clean.

In the kitchen, the dirty microwave can be cleaned simply by using lemons.

Murphy advises to cut the lemons in half, and then squeeze them into to a bowl of cold water. Then, put the bowl in the microwave for five minutes.

“The citric acid in the lemons and the steam is gonna remove all that gunk for us. You don't have to get in there and do all that scrubbing and it's going to smell lemony fresh,” she said.

When the time is up, grab a damp cloth and wipe it clean.

In the bathroom, mildew can build up around the shower, and Murphy has a simple solution.

“We're going to attack that mildew with clinging bleach," she said. "You're gonna squirt it right on that offensive disgusting mildew.”

After that is done, let it sit for an hour and then rinse.

Rust stains also develop along the shower and sink due to shaving cream canisters and other products.

Murphy has a quick fix: Sprinkle a little table salt onto half a lemon and use it as a brush.

“You're gonna use this as your scrub brush. Because it's not so abrasive, but it has that citric acid,” she said.

Many rooms in a home or apartment contain a ceiling fan, which is always a headache to clean. But how about this trick?

Murphy advises to slide a pillow case over the blade and “all of that dust is getting caught in the pillow case and not filling the room.”

She then adds to “take a micro fiber cloth, roll it around a set of cooking tong, secure it with a rubber band” and clean the blades.

In the laundry room, sometimes it's difficult to get the sweat smell out of kids' clothes or gym attire.

Murphy advises to just add half-a-cup of baking soda to the rinse cycle in the washing machine and by the time those clothes come out of the dryer the smell is gone.
