Oh Happy Day: Meet the Couple That Got Engaged and Married in the Span of One Day

A Washington, D.C., woman got the surprise of a lifetime when her longtime love proposed to her — and then whisked her away to their wedding just hours later.

Sherrell and Alfred Duncan were together for nine years when he got down on one knee in front of their friends and family and asked her to marry him.

“Will you please be my wife?” he asked.

She excitedly said yes, unaware that he had much more in store for their special day.

Declaring it “servitude day,” Alfred Duncan got his new-fiancée to anything he asked.

The personal trainer was swept away to get her hair and makeup done at a hotel.

Though all her best friends were there to greet her, she believed she was getting a makeover to take engagement photos.

Loved ones then took the blindfolded Sherrell to a secret location.

When she realized it was where she would be married, she could hardly breathe.

Sherrell told Inside Edition she wasn't expecting to be engaged and married in the same day at all, saying: "I wasn't expecting the proposal, so I never once thought 'I'm going to get beautiful to be married.'"

Alfred wasn't worried about disappointing his bride, saying that they have been together for a long time and he therefore knows her style.

"I know what she likes and what she doesn't like," he said.

The pair were wed only hours after getting engaged, but you'd never know it after hearing Sherrell's heartfelt words to her husband

“I love you for loving me through everything... I’m so happy that you love me this way,” Sherrell told Alfred. “I’m so happy that you chose me. I love you with my whole heart. I can’t imagine my life without you, I love you so much.”
