Teen Cancer Patient Who Sang With Florence + The Machine While In Hospice Has Died

Karinya Chen bravely fought her battle with cancer and was well enough to sing with Florence Welch in May.

The teenage hospice patient in Texas who got to sing along with Florence Welch to her band's hit "Shake It Out" last spring has lost her battle with cancer.

Karinya “Yaya" Chen died Saturday after a years-long battle with bone cancer, according to her family.

Karinya's smiling face was plastered all over national websites in May after the Florence + The Machine chanteuse paid the 15-year-old girl a visit at Hospice Austin.

The video has since been viewed over 1.2 million times. 

 Karinya had plans to attend the concert the band held in May before her health failed.

"It was a dream come true, it was the best day of my life, easily ... Florence is this Amazonian of a woman but she's such a kind and lovely and beautiful soul, lovely person, there's no one like her," Karinya told KVUE at the height of her Internet fame.

"Today we were privileged to witness the clear joy of a room full of teenagers singing with Florence Welch and guitarist Rob Ackroyd from Florence and The Machine who came to Hospice Austin's Christopher House to give a private concert to a teen who missed her concert last night due to her illness," Hospice Austin wrote on its YouTube video of the touching visit.

"The room was full; full of joy and warmth and love and life and singing," read the message. "Thank you, Florence!"
