Survivor of Deadly Car Crash That Killed Her 4 Friends Leaves Hospital After 6 Months

"This is great news, because it means that she is progressing steadily," friends wrote in an update to Agnes Kim's YouCaring fundraising page.

The survivor of a deadly car crash in Georgia that killed four of her friends has left the hospital after spending half a year recovering, authorities said.

Agnes Kim, 22, was released from the Shepherd Center on Wednesday after spending six months recovering from a brain injury she suffered in the April 27 collision on Georgia State Route 15.

“This is great news, because it means that she is progressing steadily,” friends wrote in an update to Kim’s YouCaring fundraising page.

After waking from a coma weeks after the crash, Kim spent months in rehabilitation receiving intensive treatment for her injuries, the Shepherd Center said in a statement.

During her time recovering, she also received her marketing degree from the University of Georgia, much to the delight of those who love her.

“It has been truly humbling to see how many prayers and how much support has been flooding the Kims' way,” her friends wrote on YouCaring.

Kim will continue rehab in the day program at Shepherd Pathways in Decatur.

“Hello, my name is Agnes. Thank you for praying for me. I am getting better. Thank you. I love you all,” Kim said in a video posted on September 5.

The Kim family, while grateful for the outpouring of support, continue to request privacy, the Shepherd Center said.

Kim had been traveling north on the highway when her Toyota Camry drifted into oncoming traffic and into the path of a Chevrolet Cobalt, Georgia State Patrol said at the time.

“The car swerved in front of me and I couldn’t stop,” the driver of the other car, Abby Short, said to a 911 operator. The operator later realized she knew 27-year-old Short, an EMT who had been on her way home from work.

“I really just wanted to go home; I really just wanted to get to my house,” Short said to her colleague before breaking down in tears. She was treated and released from the hospital the following morning.

Kim’s passengers, classmates Kayla Canedo, 19; Brittany Feldman, 20; Christina Semeria, 19; and Halle Scott, 19, did not survive the crash, officials said.

It is not known why Kim’s vehicle drifted into the other lane, but authorities do not suspect alcohol played a role in the crash.

No charges have been filed in the crash.
