A Guilt-Free Low Cal Thanksgiving That Will Keep You Full

The holidays are here, which usually means healthy eating is out - at least until January 1.

But that doesn't have to be the case. Even during a traditionally calorie dense holiday like Thanksgiving, celebrity chef and Restaurant Divided host Rocco DiSpirito demonstrates that eating light is always in season.

Take his Thanksgiving turkey, for example. DiSpirito says the best way to cut down on calories in your bird is to choose the piece you like most and poach it rather than roast it.

For a potato side dish, DiSpirito recommends using sweet potatoes rather than starchy white potatoes.

DiSpirito said: "You just take a sweet potato and put it in the microwave for 10 minutes and puree it, which is all I did here. I did nothing to sweeten it. It tastes amazing."

DiSpirito also skips the sugar altogether in his super tart cranberry sauce.

"Cranberries are tart for a reason. They taste good with really sweet turkey, that's why we eat cranberries with turkey," DiSpirito explained.

And the icing on the cake: pumpkin puree frosting on sugar free, gluten free lowfat cupcakes. DiSpirito said: "The cupcakes are made with chestnut flour and cocoa powder and dark chocolate chips."
