Student Charged With Attempted Murder After Trying to Abort Girlfriend's Baby With Bleach: Cops

Charges against 20-year-old Theophilous Washington have been upgraded.

A Pennsylvania college student who was previously charged with trying to cause his girlfriend to miscarry their baby with bleach now faces an attempted murder charge.

Millersville University student Theophilous Washington, 20, was in court Tuesday on allegations that he deliberately put bleach in his pregnant girlfriend’s water in an attempt to harm the unborn child.

Washington waived a preliminary hearing on several charges, including an additional charge of attempted murder that prosecutors filed at the hearing.

District Judge Joshua Keller ordered that Washington be tried in Lancaster County Court on the attempted murder charge and counts of attempted murder of an unborn child and reckless endangerment.

Investigators say Washington had the woman drink from a bleach-tainted water bottle on October 28. After falling ill in her dorm room, the woman called 911.

A doctor examined the victim, who was approximately two months pregnant at the time, and the unborn baby. Both are believed to be physically unharmed. Washington is the father of the unborn child.

"The charges are twisted and the intended result nothing short of horrifying," District Attorney Craig Stedman said in a statement in October.
