Student Resource Officer Accused of Punching and Choking High School Student

He has been placed on leave pending an investigation.

The mother of a Georgia high school student has claimed her son was beaten and choked by a school resource officer.

Melissa Sloan, 46, said the officer punched her son in the head twice, choked him, and pushed him to the ground on December 2, according to reports.

She later filed a report about the incident with the school, Stone Mountain High School, which they say is being investigated, according to school officials.

The officer has been removed from duty pending the investigation.

It's unclear how the altercation began.

“I got a call — I was at work — that my son had been in a fight with a police officer," Sloan told WGCL "Never done anything like this before so I was immediately alarmed."

In video obtained by the station, the resource officer can be seen walking toward Sloan’s ninth-grader son and grabbing him. The mother also took photos of his injuries.

"That's the full picture of my son being hit in the face and busted lip," Sloan said as she showed the station. "This is the bruise where his skin peeled from being drug."

Sloan doesn’t understand why the officer would use force in the manner.

"I don't care what authority you felt like you had — who are you to put your hands on someone else's child in that manner?" Sloan asked. "You fought my son like he was a man."

She added: "I don't think I want him fired. I don't want anybody to lose their job but I definitely don't think he needs to be around anybody's child. I also think he may need to be retrained."

Her son was initially suspended from school but has been allowed to return.

"He didn't have a voice. I barely have a voice but somebody is going to hear us this time so I just hope justice is served."
