Just Plane Romantic: Boyfriend Proposes to College Sweetheart After Riding on Baggage Carousel at Airport

He said it was their joint love of aviation that prompted the location.

Honoring his and his girlfriend’s love for aviation, Evan Heinrich, decided to pop the question to his college sweetheart after riding on the baggage claim carousel at an airport in Ohio.

In a video of the special moment, Elizabeth Hammel, 24, can be seen reading a scrapbook Heinrich made for her. But before she finishes, Heinrich comes around the carousel cross-legged and playing his guitar.

“We are both big aviation enthusiasts so I thought the airport would be a good place to do it,” Heinrich told InsideEdition.com. “I figured everything out really last minute and I’m just an avid guitar player so it kind of all worked out.”

Heinrich, 25, is a student pilot at Akron-Canton Airport and some of the employees helped him put together the idea.

The two have been dating for three years and met while in a plane-building club at the University of Akron.

“I had no idea until I got about halfway through the little book and the last page had a picture of a ring on it,” Hammel told insideEdition.com. “I saw Eric coming down the carousel with his guitar. I thought it was adorable.”

And, of course, she said yes.

“I was very surprised and I was really glad he did it. I was really happy to be marrying him,” Hammel said.
