Playing 'Stranger Things' Star Opens Up About Rare Disorder: 'Putting It Into The Show Raises Awareness About It'

The young cast of Stranger Things may be having the time of their lives after stealing the hearts of viewers and critics alike, and one of the young actors is speaking up about the surprising medical condition that was written into the script.

The cast is currently reaping the benefits of success at award shows where they are being crowned winners, most recently at the SAG Awards over the weekend.

The character of Dustin, played by Gaten Matarazzo, has become a fan favorite thanks to his charming and gregarious character nature. In the show, Dustin has an unusual genetic disorder where his teeth won't fully grow in — just like Matarazzo himself.

Both on and off screen, Matarazzo has cleidocranial dysplasia. The condition is a congenital disorder that mostly affects the development of bones and teeth.

It was written into the pilot of the show where he gets bullied because of the condition.

"I feel like putting it into the show raises awareness about it,” he told Inside Edition. "People have delayed growth; their baby teeth don't fall out.

The 14-year-old has fake teeth that he wears off camera and he has been using the smile lately to light up the red carpet.

The second season of Stranger Things is currently being filmed and is expected to arrive on Netflix in July, a year after the show debuted to rave reviews on the streaming network.
