The Broome County Humane Society told InsideEdition.com the pups were being transported by an Iowa breeder to pet stores in other cities when the cargo van crashed at about 3:45 a.m. in Binghamton.

The shelter responded to take the animals into their care until the owners were able to pick them up.

"We brought them back to the shelter where they were evaluated [and] given food and water," Amberly Ondria, manager of the Broome County Humane Society, told WBNG. "They are all healthy and well taken care of."

New York State Police responded to the accident.

The tow truck company said it appeared the van hit a construction vehicle, and landed on its side, WBNG reported.
