Watkins previously had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to aggravated murder of her 3-month-old daughter, Jayniah Watkins.

Watkins was ordered to have psychiatric treatment and later found competent to stand trial. Her attorney told the court that she is taking medication for postpartum psychosis, according to court documents.

Police found her daughter's decapitated body on a kitchen counter on March 16, 2015 after a 911 call to the home of the girl's aunt, who was caring for the child temporarily, The Associated Press reported.

Police said Watkins had placed the knife in the girl's hand and later told them it was so people would believe "the child did it — not her."

Watkins was reportedly found in bed and covered in blood.

According to court documents, doctors declared Watkins unsafe to be around the child unless she took prescribed medication. Though the girl was in the care of the aunt, officials say Watkins moved into the home in the weeks before her murder.
